Black Elderberries (Sambucus Nigra) have a rich history in herbal medicine and Elderberry Syrup is a must-have in any natural cold and flu medicine chest. Elderberry Syrup gained significant attention in the natural health community shortly after the H1N1 (Swine) flu outbreak when a study was released demonstrating its ability to effectively inhibit this widespread strain of the flu (Roschek, et.al., 2009).
Research conducted by the FIW Research Team has found that the herb has a powerful effect on cold and flu symptoms. It works by inhibiting viral replication, so it is best taken at the very first sign of illness or just after a known exposure to someone who is sick (Kinoshita, et.al., 2012). It can also be taken in smaller doses preventively during the cold and flu season or during times of increased exposure such as holiday travel.
This syrup is made specific for Immune Support and prevention, but the wonderful thing about this syrup is that it can be made with different herbs for different needs, for example if a soothing syrup for a cough is needed we can add Marshmallow and Wild Cherry Bark. We can also take out the honey and alcohol and add a different preservative etc. It really can be tailored to different ailments. Whats even better, is that children love it!
Elderberry is possibly unsafe when the leaves, stems, unripe fruit, or uncooked fruit is eaten. The raw and unripe fruit may cause nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea. Our syrup is cooked thoroughly.
Interactions: Medications that decrease the immune system (Immunosuppressants) interacts with Elderberry. Elderberry can increase the immune system. Taking Elderberry along with some medications that decrease the immune system may decrease the effectiveness of these medications.
